About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become part of our Middle/High School team. The start date for this position is set for 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the designated curriculum with a strong command of the subject matter and current educational practices.
- Design and implement engaging lessons that inspire students, utilizing suitable resources and classroom environments to accommodate various learning styles.
- Provide documented evidence of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Maintain organized records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching materials, and assessment strategies.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Teach students based on their unique needs, employing effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse abilities, including those of late entrants, ESL learners, and students with varying academic levels, including gifted individuals.
- Assign and evaluate student work, and assess, record, and report on their academic growth, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with individual student requirements.
- Demonstrate proficiency in integrating media and technology within the classroom setting.
- Support the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
- Engage with external stakeholders, such as Ministry of Education officials, when necessary.
- Take part in appraisal and Performance Management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to prepare and enhance teaching materials, resources, study courses, and pastoral care systems.
- Participate in, and take a leadership role in, the school’s co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas and resources.
- Supervise and promote safe and appropriate student behavior, implementing strategies that encourage self-discipline and effectively manage disruptive actions.
- Model and inspire cultural awareness and understanding while fostering a passion for learning.
- Assist in organizing and planning school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and award ceremonies.
- Maintain regular communication with parents to advocate for the GEMS philosophy and core values, keeping them informed of their children’s progress while respecting student confidentiality.
- Demonstrate initiative and commitment beyond standard working hours when additional effort is needed.
- Attend staff meetings and participate on committees as required.
- Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by direct and indirect supervisors.
