Grade 8 Teacher (2 Full-Time Positions)

The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is seeking motivated, skilled, and enthusiastic candidates for two full-time Grade Eight Teacher positions at Father Megret High School in Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan. In this role, you will utilize your strong interpersonal skills and commitment to project-based learning to cultivate an engaging educational environment for your students.

The ADEA serves three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan: Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. With a student population of around 1,400, the Authority is dedicated to improving educational outcomes through cutting-edge technology, innovative program initiatives, and the incorporation of Denesuline culture within the curriculum.

This position is open to applicants from across Canada, with a preference for First Nation or Indigenous candidates who fulfill the specified qualifications, knowledge, and skills.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Be attentive to any allergies that students may have.
  • Set clear instructional objectives to foster a positive learning environment that embraces Denesuline culture and language.
  • Create a classroom atmosphere that supports students' holistic development—physical, social, and emotional.
  • Develop and execute lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials in advance.
  • Continuously assess and document student progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and their parents regarding academic progress.
  • Participate in professional development, attend staff meetings, engage in parent-teacher conferences, and contribute to various school activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must exhibit patience, flexibility, observance, and a passion for teaching.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, active listening, and empathy are vital.
  • A thorough understanding of Effective Practices, Policies and Guidelines, and the Saskatchewan Curriculum is essential.
  • Ability to align with the provincial Ministry of Education curricula while focusing on holistic development in social-emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual areas.
  • Actively engage with families, children, and community members to respect their diverse backgrounds and experiences, fostering an equitable and inclusive school environment.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning student information and professional matters.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or an equivalent qualification.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience teaching First Nations students in remote communities is an advantage.
  • First Aid Certification is a plus.
  • Relevant training or experience in the field of education is considered a definite asset.

Compensation
