About This Role

Al Rabeeh Academy is seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Science to join our dynamic, high-achieving team starting in August 2026.

As the Head of Science at our international British curriculum institution, you will play a crucial role in elevating the standards of teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, which include GCSE and A Level courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Your leadership will involve managing and mentoring a team of Science teachers, setting clear expectations, providing coaching and professional development, and ensuring that teaching quality, learning outcomes, and student achievements remain at a consistently high level throughout the department. Your duties will encompass overseeing curriculum development, assessment strategies, data analysis, and departmental improvement plans, all while nurturing a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.

You will champion a strong STEM culture within the school, advocating for hands-on, inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary cooperation. Additionally, you will ensure that our laboratory facilities are safe, well-equipped, and supportive of innovative teaching and academic excellence.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Head of Science who can:

• Deliver high-quality, engaging Science instruction aligned with the British Curriculum, capable of teaching and overseeing Biology, Chemistry, and Physics up to GCSE and A Level.

• Demonstrate and promote strong scientific reasoning, inquiry skills, and practical applications, ensuring that departmental teaching remains innovative, challenging, and effective.

• Implement various formative and summative assessment methods to monitor and enhance student progress and achievement across all key stages and science subjects.

• Lead curriculum planning, sequencing, and development across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring coherence, progression, and alignment with examination standards.

• Guide, manage, mentor, and support Science department members, fostering high-quality teaching, learning, laboratory practices, and professional ethics.

• Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols in laboratories and practical learning environments, following school policies and best practices.

• Promote the academic and pastoral well-being of students, reinforcing the school’s values, routines, and expectations throughout the department.

• Develop strong, positive relationships with parents and caregivers, effectively communicating curriculum objectives, student progress, and future steps.

• Actively engage in school improvement initiatives, professional development, and the broader school community.

Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates must:

• Be fluent in English.

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field with PGCE/QTS (or an equivalent teaching qualification).

• Have experience teaching the English National Curriculum, ideally in an international context.

• Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and a commitment to student well-being.

• Possess excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

• Exhibit strong leadership abilities with the capacity to guide and coach a team.
