About the School
Nestled in the scenic hamlet of Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, Nuiyak Elementary serves the local community with a student population of around 185 in a K-6 setting, supported by a dedicated staff of 23. The school and its community are deeply rooted in a rich Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written communication).
- Experience in facilitating Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
- Background in teaching within bilingual or ESL environments.
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
- Familiarity with current assessment methods to guide student learning.
- Proven ability to create a positive classroom atmosphere using various management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in nurturing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
- Proven ability to promote student wellbeing and engagement.
- Experience in interacting with students outside the classroom in appropriate contexts.

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
- Experience in learning and contributing within a community-focused environment.

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Sanikiluaq, Nunavut: $20,293
- Subsidized Housing: Available, though shared accommodations may be required.

Conditions of Employment
- Current Government of Nunavut employees must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a recognized Canadian jurisdiction as per the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
