Assistant Principal for Behaviour & Alternative Provision
About This Role
Salford City Academy is in search of an outstanding leader who possesses a strong presence and a steadfast dedication to maintaining the highest standards of behavior. This position is ideal for an individual capable of effectively managing complex and challenging student dynamics, establishing clear expectations, and exemplifying the calm, consistent professionalism we uphold within our academy. You should be adept at leading behavior management in high-pressure situations and maintaining a strong, visible role in our isolation room (Reflect), ensuring that students are re-engaged, supported, and held to the highest standards.
We are seeking a strategic innovator who can develop and execute a new approach to Alternative Provision. You will lead with clarity and determination, creating systems, structures, and a curriculum that guarantees our most vulnerable learners receive the support, challenge, and opportunities they deserve. Your extensive expertise in behavior leadership, along with your ability to coach, develop, and motivate others, will be key to fostering disruption-free learning every day.
Building relationships is vital in our community. You will cultivate strong, trusting connections with students, families, staff, and external agencies, always in alignment with our REACT values of responsibility, excellence, aspiration, commitment, and teamwork.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to create a transformational impact: to establish a high-impact Alternative Provision model, promote exceptional behavior standards, and ensure that every child at Salford City Academy learns in a calm, purposeful environment where they can thrive.
If you are motivated, resilient, and passionate about influencing behavior culture on a whole-school level, we would love to hear from you.
Why choose us?
High achieving school – verified by Ofsted and through our GCSE results.
Salford City Academy is an ambitious and successful 11-16 academy, part of the United Learning Multi-Academy Trust. In February 2022, Ofsted reaffirmed the academy’s status as a good school, noting that “Pupils at Salford City Academy said that they enjoy coming to school to learn. They feel happy and safe at school.” Leaders have high expectations for pupil behavior, and students conduct themselves well both in lessons and around the school, demonstrating politeness and respect for one another.
Academic outcomes at the academy have seen significant improvement since 2019. We proudly celebrated continued excellent results this summer, remaining among the top two schools in Salford. Our performance in Maths and Science places us in the top 20% of schools nationwide.
State of the art facilities
The academy boasts modern facilities and a dedicated, high-quality teaching team focused on motivating and engaging all students. With an investment of over £3.5 million in the past two years and an additional £1.5 million committed for future enhancements, our facilities include a state-of-the-art gymnasium, which is free for staff, new dining and catering areas, expansive outdoor spaces featuring a new 3G pitch, and newly constructed music and drama rooms. Our digital strategy guarantees access to the latest digital resources for both students and staff, with every staff member provided with a personal Microsoft Surface Pro device.

We are dedicated to helping students overcome barriers to learning and promoting diversity and tolerance throughout the academy. Our extensive personal development program, ‘Aspire,’ covers all aspects of students' holistic growth. According to Ofsted 2022, “Pupils make a valuable contribution to the life of the school, particularly through the work of the prefects.”
What do we offer:
Disruption-free learning
We are committed to providing a learning environment that is free from disruption. Our behavior expectations are set high, as we believe every student is capable of meeting them. We do not tolerate any interruptions to learning or poor behavior, supported by a clearly defined and structured behavior system.
Excellent continuous professional development and collaboration
Salford City Academy is devoted to professional development; all staff are encouraged to engage in a program of continuing professional development (CPD). Collaboration is key, as we share best practices and adopt a Trust-wide approach to development. We aim to ensure the right people are in the right roles to build excellent educational opportunities for our children and young people. Our extensive professional development program includes reflective practice, coaching, weekly deliberate practice, and CPD aligned with academy, subject, and individual priorities.
United Learning schools collaborate as a team, achieving more together than any single school could on its own. Our subject specialists, Group-wide intranet, customized curriculum, and online learning portal facilitate knowledge and resource sharing, simplifying work processes and managing workloads for a better work-life balance. Our academy’s practices support this focus, allowing teachers to dedicate time to planning and delivering high-quality teaching. For instance, all behavior management and detentions are handled by the Inclusion Team, enabling teachers to concentrate on delivering engaging lessons while supporting their workload and well-being.
Staff will form a dynamic team that is supportive, friendly, and dedicated to instilling the values of Responsibility, Excellence, Aspiration, Commitment, and Teamwork in the future generation, preparing them for successful and fulfilling adult lives.
