About This Role

IBSB places a strong emphasis on child safeguarding and is dedicated to ensuring the welfare of our students. All applicants must be prepared to undergo appropriate child protection screening relevant to the position, which includes necessary safeguarding checks with previous employers and the appropriate authorities.

We are currently in search of a Secondary School IGCSE/A Level Business Studies teacher, who will also be expected to teach some KS3 Humanities classes. The position is set to commence on Friday, August 21, 2026.

IBSB OVERVIEW

Situated in the heart of the city, IBSB has established itself as a school renowned for both academic and athletic excellence. It holds the distinction of being the first British DfE-inspected institution in Romania, the inaugural international school accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Education, and a fully accredited member of COBIS & AoBSO. Additionally, IBSB is recognized as the first fully accredited HPL school in Romania and the first NACE Challenge Award School in the country.

Following an ISI inspection in September 2022, IBSB received the top rating of 'Excellent' for the 'Quality of Education' provided. Notably, 57% of our IGCSE students achieved A-A* grades, with 95% of graduates receiving offers from the top 5% of universities globally. Our school serves around 500 students, comprising 65% Romanian and 35% international attendees from over 30 countries.

LIFE IN ROMANIA

Romania is undoubtedly one of the most appealing places in Europe for living and working. The Romanian people are known for their warmth and friendliness, with many being well-educated and fluent in multiple languages, including English.

The country experiences four distinct seasons, featuring stunning beaches, the last remaining mountain wilderness in Europe, and numerous ski resorts located just over 90 minutes from Bucharest. Experience charming old towns with cobblestone streets, a wealth of castles and monasteries, and enjoy more sunny days than rainy ones. King Charles III has two residences in Romania, calling it one of his favorite destinations— it was the first country he visited after his coronation.

Centrally located within the EU, Romania offers affordable flights, such as those from Ryanair and Wizzair, to major cities for under 100 euros when booked in advance, including return trips to the UK. Generally, one can save a significant part of their monthly income, often more than in Spain, Italy, Greece, and other Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.

LIFE IN BUCHAREST

Bucharest, the capital, is a safe and clean city, offering a reliable public metro and tram system, with a monthly pass costing around 20 euros (students enjoy free travel). The city is safe for evening strolls, and weekends are filled with activities. Shopping malls abound, featuring all the Western brands and eateries at prices significantly lower than in Western Europe, allowing your budget to stretch further.

International educators typically earn 2-3 times the average local salary, making it easier to save. Dining out is also reasonably priced, with a two-course meal and a drink costing around 15 euros, encouraging many of our international staff to frequently enjoy meals out.

Furthermore, teachers can potentially save enough for a deposit on their own apartment by the end of their first contract, avoiding rental costs, as many staff have successfully done.

TEACHING AT IBSB

The students at IBSB are generally above the UK average in terms of capability, and their behavior makes teaching a rewarding experience. The school offers ample support from both the administration and parents— we are fortunate to have an exceptionally supportive Parent Association, who recently organized a surprise morning tea for the staff to express gratitude for our efforts during the first half of Term 1a.

ISI INSPECTION REPORT (SEPT 2022) - 'AWARDED EXCELLENT'

IBSB achieved the highest rating in the September 2022 ISI BSO inspection, recognized as Excellent for the Quality of Education, covering both student learning and achievement as well as personal development and well-being. BSO Report Template (ibsb.ro)

HPL WORLD CLASS SCHOOL

UCL PARTNER SCHOOL

In the 2026-27 academic year, we will provide NPQLT, NPQEYL, NPQSENCO, NPQHSL, and NPQH. At IBSB, we maintain a generous CPD budget to keep our educational offerings current, including Educare courses, National College Courses, HMC courses, Cambridge courses, and Edexcel Courses, ensuring our staff can advance in their careers.
