About This Role

Key Responsibilities

1) Teaching, Coaching & Skill Development
- Deliver the PE curriculum and provide high-quality coaching sessions for both Primary and Secondary students.
- Coach students of varying abilities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, enjoyable, and progressive environment.
- Support core sports offerings in volleyball, basketball, football, and swimming; expertise in at least one of these areas is preferred.
- Conduct sessions in additional sports based on your skill set.
- Foster physical literacy, teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, and a lifelong passion for physical activity.

2) Planning, Assessment & Student Progress
- Create engaging and structured lessons or sessions that align with departmental schemes of work.
- Provide feedback to students, tracking their skill advancement and involvement.
- Assist with internal assessments and reporting when necessary.
- Support IGCSE PE theory or practical components, though this is desirable rather than mandatory.

3) Co-curricular Sport, Fixtures & Competitive Leagues
- Lead or assist with after-school training for various age groups.
- Coach teams for local leagues and tournaments, demonstrating flexibility in hours and days during competition seasons.
- Help organize fixtures, transportation, supervision, equipment, and event-day logistics.
- Promote inclusive participation while developing talent and fostering competitive excellence.

4) Swimming Provision
- Assist with swimming lessons across K–12 as appropriate.
- Support beginner, development, or squad swimmers based on your experience and certifications.
- Adhere to all safety, supervision, and poolside protocols in collaboration with lifeguards and the Head of Sport.

5) Safety, Conduct & Professionalism
- Uphold high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and student conduct.
- Ensure appropriate supervision ratios and the safe use of sports equipment and facilities.
- Prepare teaching/coaching areas and assist with the general operations of the department.
- Exemplify professional conduct, punctuality, and positive communication with students, colleagues, and families.

6) Co-Curricular, House System & Community Engagement
- Deliver or assist with sports clubs, recreational fitness sessions, or wellbeing programs.
- Engage with the House system through inter-House competitions and events.
- Support school-wide activities such as sports days, tournaments, swim galas, charity events, and festivals.
- Promote a positive sporting culture that aligns with RGSPP’s values and commitment to holistic education.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
Candidates should fulfill either the teaching pathway or coaching pathway requirements:

Teaching pathway:
- A degree plus PGCE, B.Ed., QTS, or a recognized international teaching qualification.

Coaching pathway:
- Accredited coaching qualifications (national body or international equivalent) in at least one sport.
- Significant experience coaching children or young people in school, club, or community environments.

For both pathways:
- Experience working with children of various ages.
- Experience coaching one or more school sports (volleyball, basketball, football, swimming preferred).
- Willingness to work flexible hours during competition seasons.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Ability to teach IGCSE PE or contribute to theory/practical components.
- Experience coaching multiple sports.
- Swimming instruction/coaching or lifeguarding certification.
- First aid qualification.
- Experience coaching teams in leagues, tournaments, or clubs.
- Experience in an international or multilingual educational setting.

All Teachers at RGSPP
- Contribute to the pastoral care and holistic development of students at RGSPP.
- Teach (or be available for Private Study supervision or cover) a designated timetable each week.
- Accept responsibilities within their department as needed, including assisting with the setting and grading of internal examinations, entrance exams, and scholarship assessments, and recording results.
- Develop and share resources and best practices, contributing to departmental meetings and the online departmental handbook.
- Set and mark assignments in accordance with school and department policies; provide constructive feedback; maintain accurate records of attainment and progress; and prepare assessments and reports as required.
- Attend meetings (staff meetings, INSET, Parents’ Briefings) and communicate with parents during planned school events and when appropriate.
