About This Role

UWC Dilijan is seeking a Geography Teacher to become a part of our international community starting in August 2026. At UWC Dilijan, your role will extend beyond merely teaching a subject. You will empower students from 80 different nations to foster connections, enhance cross-cultural understanding, and champion peace. If you are a seasoned educator passionate about mission-driven education, we encourage you to join us.

UWC Dilijan, one of the 18 United World Colleges, is an intentionally diverse international boarding school located in Armenia. Established in August 2014, we currently serve over 220 students aged 16 to 18 from 80 countries, all pursuing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

We are guided by the philosophy that education serves "as a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future" (UWC Mission Statement). Beyond academic pursuits, we are a compassionate community devoted to the growth of each individual, adhering to the UWC principles and values, ensuring our students not only learn but flourish.

UWC Dilijan is connected to a broader network of organizations focused on transforming Armenia, including the IDeA Foundation, the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, and the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology. As an educator here, you have the chance to engage with this broader context, whether through unique partnerships, participating in high-level humanitarian and technology forums, or inviting distinguished speakers to your classroom.

At UWCD, you are not just a teacher but also a mentor, an outdoor enthusiast, and a vital part of our residential life. The opportunities for contributing to Dilijan and the larger UWC movement are boundless. We invite you to visit our website and social media channels to discover the remarkable stories crafted by our community.

Responsibilities:

In your role at UWC Dilijan, you will engage deeply with our community in the following ways:

Design and implement a stimulating academic curriculum that leverages the diversity of our 80 nationalities to enhance learning and cross-cultural understanding.

Serve as a committed mentor, supporting our residential life program and aiding students in their personal, moral, and social development within a multicultural boarding environment.

Actively participate in our Outdoor Education and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programs, allowing students to discover their voices and passions through experiential learning.

Collaborate with a team of international educators, sharing knowledge and expertise to promote the holistic development of each student.

Serve as an ambassador for our core values, transforming education into a lived experience that promotes peace and a sustainable future through both personal initiative and institutional collaborations.

Personal and Professional Specifications:

We understand that each educator has a unique journey, contributing a distinct blend of strengths and experiences to our community. While the following criteria outline our ideal candidate, we appreciate the diverse paths that lead educators to join us.

A minimum of three years of teaching experience with a desire to inspire young people; familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme is a significant advantage in our academic setting.

A successful history of engaging with children and adolescents, whether in traditional educational environments or through other impactful youth-related work.

A degree in your teaching subject area. Advanced degrees in education, counseling, or related fields are highly regarded as they enhance our comprehensive approach to student development.

A strong commitment to student safety, including previous safeguarding training. If this is lacking, you should be prepared to undergo comprehensive training to uphold our high standards of care.

Fluency in English and a genuine interest in international and intercultural environments. Proficiency in additional languages and prior intercultural living experiences are highly desirable assets in our diverse community.

Experience contributing to the broader educational landscape as an IB examiner, workshop leader, or CIS visiting team member. We value individuals who bring these external insights to our campus.

Enthusiasm for the unique rewards that come with living and working in a residential school, where learning is a continuous journey.

Benefits:

An exceptional chance to mentor a diverse and socially conscious group of young people from 80 different nations.

Access to outstanding professional development opportunities.

A renewable two-year contract that offers long-term stability within an international educational network.

A competitive salary, fixed in USD and paid in Armenian Dram, ensuring financial security in a dynamic economy.

Generous relocation and annual travel allowances to support you and your family as you integrate into our community and maintain your global connections.

Comprehensive medical and travel insurance, ensuring access to world-class healthcare.

Rent-free accommodation (on or off-campus) inclusive of all utilities and full board in our canteen.

Full access to the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, including an indoor pool, high-performance gym, theatre, and inspiring art and design studios.

A dedicated social and wellness program for staff and their families, featuring activities such as aqua fitness and yoga, as well as cultural excursions to nurture a sense of community.
