Upper Key Stage 2 Classroom Teacher (August 2025)
About This Role
The school is seeking to hire a qualified and enthusiastic Classroom Teacher for Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5/6) to start in August 2025.
ABOUT THE ROLE
- You will be responsible for teaching all subjects, excluding those delivered by specialist teachers, in alignment with school policies and curriculum plans.
- Ensure that both medium-term and short-term planning adhere to school policy.
- Keep the parent portal updated with relevant information and useful links for parents.
- Collaborate closely with parallel teachers on termly and weekly planning, as well as with other staff to ensure a seamless progression in learning.
- Cater to the diverse abilities of students by planning differentiated activities.
- Conduct monitoring, recording, assessment, and reporting in accordance with school policies.
- Provide timely feedback on student work as per the marking policy, offering individual encouragement whenever possible.
- Lead P.E. lessons (excluding swimming) when the specialist PE teacher is unavailable.
- Work with the music teacher to rehearse and direct students for concerts and events.
- Oversee the pastoral care of students, fostering positive relationships among the children and with the teacher.
- Manage classroom behavior and discipline in accordance with the school’s behavior policy.
- Supervise students during lunch and monitor their behavior (refer to staff handbook for procedures).
- Maintain close communication with the Head Master and other staff regarding any concerns about specific students.
- Create a stimulating classroom environment, ensuring displays are regularly updated and relevant to ongoing classroom activities.
- Organize and maintain all classroom resources, ensuring they are accessible to students as needed.
- Provide a variety of suitable reading materials in the classroom.
- Review home/school reading diaries daily and make appropriate comments to ensure effective communication.
- Keep all paperwork current and accurate, including registers, profiles, and health matters.
- Meet with parents as necessary to foster strong professional relationships and communication.
- Promote the school by engaging with prospective parents visiting the classroom, attending open evenings, and acting as an ambassador for the school.
- Participate in parents' evenings and school events as required.
- Take responsibility for the care, security, and maintenance of resources and equipment across the school.
- Follow all duties and procedures outlined in the staff handbook.
- Organize a termly class assembly and occasionally lead whole-school assemblies.
- Attend Parent Association events and other evening or weekend activities.
- Participate in staff and curriculum meetings, including occasional whole-school meetings.
- Engage in the appraisal process.
- Be willing to attend InSETs (which may be in the evenings) and pursue continuous professional development.
- Lead an after-school activity club.
- Serve as a positive role model in terms of communication, appearance, behavior, and care for equipment.
- Additional experience in one or more specialist areas will be advantageous (see ‘Further Details’ below).
