About This Role

Duties:

A. Knowledge and understanding:

• Possess a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter outlined in the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IBDP.

• Demonstrate a solid grasp of the subject.

• Address subject-related inquiries from students with confidence and be aware of common misconceptions and errors within the specialist subject(s).

• Familiarity with all secondary school curriculum and assessment frameworks.

B. Planning and setting expectations:

• Establish clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences tailored to the subject matter and the students’ needs.

• Set ambitious expectations that challenge students’ learning and motivation. Define clear learning targets that build on students' prior experiences and achievements.

• Identify students with special educational needs as well as those who are gifted and talented, seeking assistance to provide targeted support. When relevant, implement and maintain records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

C. Teaching and managing student learning:

• Deliver effective instruction to whole classes, small groups, and individual students to ensure teaching objectives are achieved, maintaining momentum and challenge while optimizing teaching time.

• Employ engaging teaching methods that stimulate students' intellectual curiosity, encourage effective questioning and responses, and utilize resources effectively.

• Establish high standards for student behavior, maintaining discipline through focused teaching and fostering positive, productive relationships.

• Encourage positive behavior, boost self-esteem, and promote independent work in students to support their educational growth in an ICT environment.

D. Assessment and evaluation:

• Assess the achievement of learning objectives and utilize this information to inform future teaching strategies.

• Grade and monitor classwork and homework, providing constructive feedback—both oral and written—and setting targets for student progress.

• When appropriate, be aware of the expectations placed on students regarding the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5.

E. Relations with parents and the wider community:

• Know how to prepare and deliver informative reports to parents.

• Acknowledge that learning occurs outside of the school environment and create opportunities for students to connect their learning with real-world and work-related examples.

• Recognize the importance of collaborating with external agencies.

F. Managing own performance and development:

• Acknowledge the responsibility for personal professional development and stay informed about advancements in pedagogy and the subjects taught.

• Understand professional obligations in relation to school policies, guidelines, and practices.

• Serve as a role model for students through appropriate presentation and conduct.

• Critically assess personal teaching effectiveness to enhance skills and practices.

G. Managing and developing staff and other adults:

• Foster productive working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.

H. Managing resources:

• Select and utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources effectively to achieve teaching objectives.

Skills/qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certification or license, coupled with extensive subject knowledge.

• At least 2 years of full-time teaching experience in an educational setting.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
