About This Role

Byron College is seeking a committed and experienced Head of Key Stage 2, with the potential to progress into the position of Assistant Head of Primary. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Key Stage leader with a proven history of making a meaningful impact and a desire to engage in broader Primary leadership as well as the overall growth of the school.

The selected individual will manage Key Stage 2 and work closely with the Head of Primary, Senior Leadership Team, and Middle Leaders to enhance teaching and learning, ensure curriculum coherence, and develop leadership skills among staff. A key aspect of this role is to promote student development academically, while also encouraging skills and values that nurture their personal growth, well-being, and readiness for future education.

About the Role

As Head of Key Stage 2 / Assistant Head of Primary, your duties will include:

  • Providing professional leadership and guidance for the implementation of the British National Curriculum in Key Stage 2.
  • Leading, supporting, and developing the Key Stage 2 teaching team to ensure consistent, high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Assisting in curriculum planning, assessment, and monitoring to elevate academic standards and facilitate student progression.
  • Playing a significant role in fostering and integrating student competencies within the curriculum, supporting their broader personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Encouraging inclusive practices and robust pastoral support for students in Years 3–6.
  • Contributing to whole-school improvement planning, self-evaluation, and strategic initiatives.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Serving as acting Head of Primary when required, taking on additional leadership responsibilities.

This role offers a clear path to further Primary leadership, providing an opportunity to shape the overall school strategy as an Assistant Head of Primary.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and extensive experience with the British National Curriculum.
  • At least three years of experience in a Key Stage leadership role or a comparable position, demonstrating measurable impact.
  • A thorough understanding of curriculum design, assessment, and effective teaching strategies.
  • A commitment to the holistic development of students, encompassing academic success, well-being, and essential skills.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A reflective, collaborative, and solution-focused approach.
  • Experience in an EAL-rich or international environment is preferred.
