EAL Teacher
About This Role
We are seeking a qualified English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher with prior experience in international education to become a part of our growing team of skilled professionals. The primary responsibility of the EAL Teacher is to establish and sustain a successful EAL Program, which involves providing support to students with varying levels of English language proficiency (from beginner to intermediate), preparing EAL learners to independently engage with our English curriculum, and collaborating with year group Classroom teachers in co-teaching, co-planning, co-assessing, and co-reflecting.
As an **EAL Teacher**, you will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
• Cultivating trusting and effective relationships with all students in the class, their parents, co-teachers, and teaching assistants, while also representing the school within the broader community.
• Organizing parent meetings when necessary to discuss student progress.
• Planning, preparing, and delivering EAL classes and activities tailored to student needs.
• Employing a variety of teaching strategies, including co-planning, co-teaching, co-assessing, and co-reflecting.
• Implementing diverse grouping strategies for different learning contexts, including whole class, small group, partner work, and individualized instruction.
• Enhancing student capabilities and differentiating instruction to cater to individual needs.
• Maintaining a well-managed and appropriately equipped teaching environment.
• Collecting and analyzing data, such as WIDA and MAP scores, to ensure effective progress in English language acquisition.
• Planning lessons that emphasize connections across curriculum areas and focus explicitly on trans-disciplinary skills and the essential components of a PYP program.
• Collaborating professionally with peers, demonstrating respect, punctuality, and adherence to school-wide meeting norms and team agreements at all times.
• Involving students, parents, and colleagues in the assessment process regularly and as appropriate.
• Engaging students in shared reflections during and at the conclusion of each unit consistently.
• Collaboratively evaluating the program with teaching partners, parents, and students as appropriate, utilizing established flexible systems.
• Taking charge of a Co-curricular Activity (CCA) once per week each semester.
You Must Have:
• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Education or an equivalent qualification with additional endorsements for working with English Language Learners from an accredited institution is required.
• At least 3 years of experience as an EAL teacher, along with relevant qualifications.
• A proven track record of working with young children exhibiting social, emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges.
• Familiarity with the British Curriculum is essential.
• Proficiency in utilizing school databases, communication platforms, and educational technology.
• Experience with other EAL testing and reporting systems.
• Knowledge and experience in co-teaching.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate professionally.
• A flexible approach, strong work ethic, and a positive demeanor.
• Strong organizational skills and an excellent command of the English language.
• Proficiency in using computers and various forms of technology, with strong references and a good attendance record.
