Frontier School Division invites applications for the following position:

Position: Cree Language and Culture Teacher

Location: Frontier Mosakahiken School

Start Date: As soon as possible

FTE: 1.00 FTE

Frontier Mosakahiken School serves a diverse population of approximately 415 students, ranging from Nursery to Grade 12. Located in Moose Lake, just 100 km east of The Pas, Manitoba—a fully serviced community—the school is easily accessible by road. The picturesque lakeside environment offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education Degree and a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for one)
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken Cree
  • Insight into Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Familiarity with the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Aboriginal Languages and Culture: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes
  • A collaborative team player who believes in the learning potential of all students

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction aimed at enhancing students' abilities to understand, communicate, and write in Cree, while enriching their cultural knowledge
  • Incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing and learning into classroom lessons
  • Collect resources to support language teaching, including local insights and speakers
  • Build community relationships with local organizations that promote Indigenous languages and lifestyles
  • Work in partnership with other educators and community knowledge keepers to organize school cultural events

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
