About the Head Start Program: The Head Start Program at Yellow Quill First Nation is dedicated to creating a nurturing and educational environment for young children and their families. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Cook to join our team and contribute to the well-being of our children.
Position Summary:
As the Cook in the Head Start Program, your primary responsibility will be to prepare nutritious meals and snacks that cater to the dietary needs of children aged 0-6 years. Your role will be vital in creating enjoyable mealtime experiences that promote healthy eating habits and align with our program’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook nutritious and balanced meals and snacks in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Ensure food is handled safely and hygienically, following food safety and health regulations.
- Create menus that celebrate cultural diversity and encourage healthy eating habits among children.
- Monitor food supplies and assist with ordering as needed.
- Work in collaboration with teaching staff to incorporate food-related activities that enhance the educational curriculum.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Interact with children during mealtimes, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a childcare or educational setting.
- Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements specific to young children.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff, children, and families.
- Cultural sensitivity and appreciation for the values of the Yellow Quill First Nation community.
Education:
- Culinary certification or degree is preferred but not required.
- Food Handler Certification is advantageous.
