  • 50% College Counselor - Supporting students with their university applications, managing our Future Focus Program, and assisting them with their educational and career planning.
  • 50% English Teacher (L&L / Language Acquisition) - Teaching English, providing language support, and delivering specialized assistance to students in Grades 6-12 (MYP and DP).

This position is ideal for someone who:

  • Has extensive experience in college counseling, particularly with international university admissions.

About Kumamoto International School

Kumamoto International School (KIS) is located in Kumamoto, on the Island of Kyushu in western Japan. KIS is accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

Our preschool division, Picasso, launched in 2003, followed by the primary school division in 2018. Our junior high school commenced in April 2023, and we are thrilled about our new, larger campus set to open in April 2025, which will accommodate our primary, junior high, and high school divisions. As a growing institution, there are numerous opportunities for career advancement as we expand our programs and grade levels.

Are we the right fit?

You:

  • Are you excited to join a smaller school where you can develop alongside it?
  • Are you committed to delivering excellent educational outcomes for your students?
  • Do you wish to be part of a school that reflects your dedication to excellence?
  • Would you enjoy living and working in a smaller Japanese city (approximately 750,000 residents) that offers a high quality of life and lower living costs compared to larger urban areas in Japan?
  • Do you prefer walking or biking to work rather than navigating a crowded train commute?
  • Are you interested in being part of a growing institution that offers numerous opportunities for professional development in various roles?
  • Do you aspire to be a “change agent” who will positively impact the lives of the students you teach?
  • Would you appreciate being mentored on your journey to becoming an exceptional educator?
  • Do you value working within a collaborative team focused on achieving outstanding educational results for students?
  • Do you have respect for Japanese culture, values, traditions, and perspectives?
  • Are you looking to avoid feeling like just another number in a large organization?

Us:

  • We are dedicated to continuous improvement in our quest to be the leading international school in Japan.
  • We believe that one exceptional teacher is equivalent to three average teachers.
  • Our aim is to foster a close-knit team of professionals committed to achieving the highest educational outcomes for our students.
  • We hold the belief that one outstanding educator can leave a lasting impact on their students' lives.
  • We fully support our teachers in order for them to perform at their best.
