Subject Lead of Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish & French)
About This Role
Lead Our High-Performing MFL Department
Tolworth Girls’ School & Sixth Form is a vibrant, ambitious and high-achieving community where students are encouraged to aspire, grow and excel. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and inspiring Subject Lead of Modern Foreign Languages to drive excellence across our Spanish and French provision.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled practitioner with strong leadership potential or proven leadership experience, to join a successful, innovative faculty within a unique and outstanding school. You will lead a committed team of subject specialists, champion high-quality teaching and learning, and contribute to the continued strength and development of our MFL curriculum.
The MFL department has been consistently one of the schools’ top-performing departments in terms of pupil outcomes. Students of GCSE Spanish and French outperform FFT20 targets, meaning that they make strong progress from Yr7 to Yr11. The priorities for the department are to further expand student numbers choosing to take MFL at KS4 and in turn, grow provision at KS5 as well as raising the profile of MFL across the school. Through initiatives such as our Spanish Exchange programme and trip to France, we seek to expose students to language and culture to inspire them in their studies and we are keen to appoint a Head of Department with exciting ideas of how the appeal of languages can be enhanced further.
There is a strong commitment to CPD in the department and the team have undertaken significant work in the past couple of years to build a curriculum to meet the demands of the new GCSE specification. We welcome applications from teachers who are keen to engage in the latest educational research on language teaching and share this with the team.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, forward thinking professional with a genuine passion for languages and a commitment to our school ethos: “Let your light so shine – Be the best you can be.”
You will teach Spanish and French at Key Stage 3, and be confident to teach at least one language, up to Key Stage 5.
