About This Role

Deputy Headteacher

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced senior leader to join our school and make a meaningful impact within our community.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to work alongside the Headteacher, governors, staff, children and families to sustain and accelerate school improvement. This role is ideal for a leader who can think strategically while remaining fully engaged in the day-to-day life of the school.

The Role

As Deputy Headteacher, you will:

  • Support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school, deputising in their absence

  • Ensure every pupil receives a high-quality education, achieves well and feels safe, supported and valued

  • Monitor, evaluate and improve teaching and learning, celebrating strong practice and addressing underperformance

  • Lead and develop staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, reflection and continuous professional growth

  • Play a key role in driving school improvement priorities and maintaining high standards across the school

Key Responsibilities

You will take a lead role across a range of whole-school priorities, including:

Safeguarding, Inclusion and Pupil Welfare

  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) and lead on safeguarding practice across the school

  • Fulfil the role of Looked After Children (LAC) / Previously Looked After Children (PLAC) lead

  • Champion diversity, equality and inclusion, ensuring all pupils feel safe, valued and supported

  • Oversee attendance, behaviour and pupil wellbeing, implementing effective strategies where needed

  • Monitor pupil premium provision and its impact

Quality of Education and Curriculum

  • Oversee curriculum leadership, supporting and developing subject leaders

  • Use data effectively to monitor progress, identify priorities

Staff Leadership and Operations

  • Line manage staff and support their development through coaching, feedback and PDWCs

  • Lead on staff deployment, including timetables, rotas and daily organisation

  • Oversee staff absence, including cover arrangements and return-to-work processes

Wider School Leadership

  • Ensure effective systems for recording and monitoring first aid and incidents

  • Oversee educational visits, including trips and risk assessments

  • Contribute to communication with families through newsletters and website content

  • Support the development of the school environment to ensure it reflects our values and supports learning

  • Has a strong track record of raising standards and securing measurable impact in their current role

  • Is approachable, resilient and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage the demands of a dynamic school environment

  • Is committed to ongoing professional development, both for themselves and their colleagues

  • Has a deep understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, equality and current educational priorities
