Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-oriented education are highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
  • Experience in education aligned with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methods
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Training or experience in employing current assessment strategies to inform learning
  • Proven ability to foster a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Experience in enhancing student wellbeing and engagement
  • Experience interacting with students outside the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student engagement
