About This Role
Main Accountabilities:
At SISC, teachers are tasked with instructing a classroom of up to 25 students, with the composition varying by grade level. In grades 1 through 5, instruction will adhere to the Cambridge Primary Curriculum Framework.
A teacher is expected to:
- Have a solid understanding of the Cambridge International curriculum standards and experience in addressing achievement gaps.
- Create engaging and innovative lessons that foster students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Actively incorporate technology and hands-on learning experiences into lessons.
- Encourage collaboration with colleagues while promoting understanding and communication within a diverse educational and cultural environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Deliver dynamic and effective lessons that cultivate a passion for learning among students.
- Achieve the learning goals set forth by the Cambridge International Curriculum through comprehensive content and effective teaching strategies.
- Design and implement a thorough and well-structured learning program that aligns with contemporary pedagogical practices and caters to individual student needs.
- Develop daily lesson plans and activities for students, guided by educational standards at national, local, and school levels, along with an understanding of developmental behaviors.
- Plan and execute interdisciplinary learning and teaching initiatives.
- Provide high-quality, engaging instruction through discussions, direct teaching, demonstrations, and independent practice, employing a variety of effective methods.
- Differentiating lessons as necessary to ensure all students can engage with the curriculum, regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency, or interest in the subject.
- Create an environment that promotes active, authentic learning by utilizing diverse teaching strategies tailored to all students' needs.
- Evaluate student performance based on established standards using various methods, including observation, performance-based assessments, or other standardized testing practices.
- Monitor student attendance and ensure timely communication of absences to the relevant office.
- Choose appropriate mathematics materials and develop a creative approach to teaching and learning.
- Organize and prepare activities for school and community events, helping students effectively showcase and present their work.
- Track each student's progress and keep both students and parents informed through platforms like Managua and other communication methods.
- Assist students in participating in internal or external competitions or activities.
- Develop, organize, and lead the School's Co-Curricular/After-School Programs.
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to ensure events and activities are organized with minimal disruption to the regular schedule.
- Attend subject or area association meetings as required and maintain connections with professional organizations. Actively seek to enhance your subject area by utilizing and implementing current teaching methods and curriculum tools.
- Be available for additional responsibilities as needed within the role and stay informed about the Southbridge calendar of events, including class activities.
- Serve as a positive role model for students, parents, colleagues, and the wider community of Southbridge International School Cambodia.
- Comply with and uphold all policies and procedures of Southbridge International School Cambodia (SISC) and take reasonable care to ensure that actions or omissions do not jeopardize the health and safety of others in the school.
- Apply foundational knowledge related to anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation and its relevance in the workplace, with the ability to articulate the principles of equal opportunity and value diversity.
