About This Role

Duties:

A. Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the subject area.
  • Maintain a solid grasp of the subject content.
  • Address subject-related questions from students with confidence, while being mindful of common misconceptions and errors within the specialization.
  • Be familiar with the school's curriculum and assessment standards.

B. Planning and Setting Expectations:

  • Establish clear educational goals, content, lesson frameworks, and sequences that align with the subject matter and the demographics of the students.
  • Set high and ambitious expectations for student learning and engagement, defining specific targets for students’ progression based on their prior knowledge and experiences.
  • Recognize students with special educational needs, as well as those who are gifted and talented, and know how to access support for tailored assistance. When applicable, implement and document Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:

  • Provide effective instruction to individual students, small groups, and entire classes, ensuring that teaching objectives are met, momentum is maintained, and instructional time is used efficiently.
  • Utilize engaging teaching methods that stimulate student interest, including effective questioning, clear explanations, and optimal use of resources.
  • Set high expectations for student behavior, establishing and upholding discipline through focused instruction and fostering positive and productive relationships.
  • Promote positive behavior, enhance self-esteem, and encourage independent learning among students to aid their education and development within an ICT environment.

D. Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Assess the degree to which learning objectives have been achieved and use that information to guide future teaching strategies.
  • Evaluate and track students' classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback, and establishing academic improvement targets.
  • Be aware of the expectations for students in relation to the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5 when applicable.

E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:

  • Understand how to create and present informative reports for parents.
  • Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and provide opportunities for students to link their learning to real-world and work-related contexts.
  • Appreciate the importance of collaboration with external organizations.

F. Managing Own Performance and Development:

  • Acknowledge the need to take responsibility for one’s professional development and stay updated on research and advancements in pedagogy and subject areas.
  • Understand professional responsibilities regarding school policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model for students in terms of behavior and presentation.
  • Critically evaluate personal teaching practices and utilize insights gained to improve effectiveness.

G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:

  • Cultivate effective collaboration with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialized educators, and support staff.

H. Managing Resources:

  • Select and effectively use books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources to achieve teaching objectives.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and a valid teaching certificate or license, with a strong background in the subject area.
  • A minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in a school setting.

  • Exhibit a rigorous approach to teaching across different year groups.
  • Show a strong commitment to teamwork.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
