The Lower School (PK3-Grade 5) Homeroom Teacher adopts a collaborative and dynamic approach to mentor, support, and educate their students.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement instruction in core subjects (English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) aligned with American Common Core or similar standards.
- Create captivating units that integrate inquiry, project-based learning, interdisciplinary ties, and hands-on experiences.
- Develop and execute an age-appropriate curriculum that combines all subject areas, including Mathematics, Language Arts, and Social Studies.
- Tailor assignments and assessments to address the diverse needs of learners, including EAL students and those requiring additional support.
- Employ both informal and formal assessments (such as rubrics, quizzes, writing portfolios, and MAP data when relevant) to guide teaching methodologies.
- Promote positive classroom behavior through effective discipline techniques, established routines, restorative practices, and clear expectations.
- Participate actively in team meetings, divisional gatherings, and school-wide events.
- Maintain clear communication with families through newsletters, meetings, conferences, and learning updates.
- Collaborate with specialist teachers (Art, Music, PE, Languages) to ensure continuity and aligned educational goals.
- Engage in curriculum alignment, grade-level planning, and school-wide initiatives.
- Lead or assist with extracurricular clubs, field trips, celebrations, and assemblies.
- Ensure the classroom environment is organized, clean, and safe.
- Supervise students during meals, playtime, naptime, and transitions.
- Contribute to Lower School events, celebrations, and seasonal activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
- A teaching license/certification is essential.
- 2–3 years of experience in Lower School teaching is required; familiarity with the American curriculum is preferred.
- Strong understanding of literacy instruction (guided reading, writing workshop, grammar, phonics) and conceptual mathematics teaching.
- Proven ability to support EAL learners and knowledge of language acquisition processes.
- Exceptional communication skills and empathy when interacting with young children.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural setting.
- High levels of patience, creativity, and emotional resilience, along with a keen awareness of safeguarding.
- Traits of patience, optimism, compassion, enthusiasm, and empathy.
- Skills in conflict resolution for managing disputes among children.
- Innovative approach to planning engaging and creative lessons.
