About This Role

GEMS Al Barsha National School is on the lookout for a dedicated and experienced Head of Islamic Studies to join our team in August 2026. This role offers a unique chance to be part of a developing school that integrates the National Curriculum for England with a strong emphasis on the values, culture, and identity of the UAE.

As the Head of the Islamic Studies Department, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic direction for curriculum development, teaching, and learning, ensuring that we maintain high standards in Islamic education. Your teaching responsibilities will include delivering a dynamic, research-informed curriculum that incorporates contemporary pedagogy, technology, and a student-centered approach. Additionally, this role encompasses mentoring educators, nurturing cultural appreciation, and establishing robust partnerships with educational organizations to enhance student outcomes while upholding national educational standards.

You will lead the charge in advancing high-quality teaching practices across all departments. The ideal candidate will assist Subject Leaders in making informed decisions regarding curriculum, assessment, and resource allocation, as well as develop intervention and improvement plans for individual teachers when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership and support to Islamic educators and curriculum staff, ensuring exceptional teaching and learning standards while integrating educational technology across all phases.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of Islamic teaching programs, ensuring they are innovative and meet required standards, key concepts, and knowledge.
  • Setting and achieving improvement targets for students, ensuring that staff are adept at utilizing data to enhance student performance and expedite progress.
  • Collaborating with the team to analyze departmental data, pinpointing students at risk of underachieving and effectively targeting interventions to promote success.
  • Identifying the professional development needs of the team, creating suitable training opportunities, and sharing exemplary practices.
  • Leading the Performance Management process for the team, pinpointing areas for growth and formulating appropriate staff development plans as needed.
  • Advocating for the subject area through Open Days and Options Evenings, while also creating initiatives to elevate the profile of Islamic studies throughout the academic year.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
