We invite applications for the position of Head of Individuals & Societies, with an opening set for August 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop, and inspire the Individuals & Societies department to provide high-quality, inquiry-based learning that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine passion for the subject.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of a cohesive, vertically and horizontally aligned Individuals & Societies curriculum that aligns with IB philosophy and assessment frameworks.
- Cultivate and maintain a positive, inclusive departmental culture that emphasizes high expectations, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support and mentor teachers within the department through lesson observations, professional dialogue, and coaching to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
- Ensure effective differentiation and inclusive practices are implemented across the department to cater to the needs of all learners, including EAL students, those who are gifted, and those requiring additional support.
- Lead the strategic use of assessment data to monitor student progress, inform intervention strategies, and drive improved outcomes.
- Advocate for the thoughtful integration of technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement and deepen understanding of the subject.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-curricular teams to support whole-school initiatives, curriculum development, and strategic objectives.
- Proactively engage with parents and the broader school community regarding curriculum matters, student progress, and departmental initiatives.
- Contribute to the wider school community by participating in co-curricular activities, events, and academic enrichment opportunities.
- Exemplify and uphold GEMS values and the IB Learner Profile, fostering professional growth, reflective practice, and a culture of lifelong learning.
