About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated individual to become part of a collaborative team that assists teachers in the implementation and delivery of educational programs and services. These educational initiatives support the integration, development, learning, safety, and well-being of students with a variety of educational, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will work with youth who have learning disabilities and those enrolled in modified and alternate programs, primarily within classroom settings, while occasionally providing pull-out support for individuals or small groups. Candidates interested in full-time positions may also assume leadership roles in our after-school Enrichment Programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and Learning Support team members to arrange resources and support programs tailored for individual students.
- Assist individual learners and small groups requiring additional attention to navigate their school day, emphasizing social, emotional, executive functioning, and academic support.
- Support individual students as outlined in an Individual Education Plan (IEP), under the direction of classroom teachers and the Learning Support teacher.
- Partner with teachers to develop support strategies that cater to the specific needs of each student.
- Maintain clear and comprehensive records of student progress to identify trends and effective interventions.
- Engage in weekly meetings regarding student learning with a team of educators.
- Help cultivate an inquiry-based learning environment.
- Contribute energy, commitment, and a willingness to participate in the diverse life of the school community.
Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- An Education Assistant Certificate/Diploma or equivalent is required.
- 1 to 3 years of previous experience working with students in an educational setting.
- Experience in addressing a range of learning needs, informed by research and best practices, in an inclusive classroom (e.g., ADHD, ASD, OCD, ODD).
- Experience in documenting student learning challenges and progress.
- Familiarity with supporting early literacy and numeracy development.
- Understanding of the BC curriculum.
- A strong dedication to student learning and success, with the ability to recognize student needs while engaging them as active learners.
- Proven ability to be innovative, adaptable, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
- Demonstrated capacity for collaborative work.
