About This Role
Duties:
A. Knowledge and Understanding:
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
• Retain a strong command of the subject content.
• Respond effectively to subject-related questions from students and be aware of common misconceptions and errors in their areas of expertise.
• Be familiar with the school’s curriculum and assessment standards.
B. Planning and Setting Expectations:
• Set clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences that cater to the subject and the needs of the students.
• Establish high yet attainable expectations for student learning and motivation. Set clear targets that build on students’ prior achievements and experiences.
• Identify students with special educational needs as well as those who are gifted and talented, knowing where to seek support for targeted assistance. Implement and maintain documentation on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary.
C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:
• Provide effective instruction to whole classes, groups, and individuals, ensuring that teaching goals are achieved, momentum is maintained, and teaching time is used efficiently.
• Utilize engaging teaching strategies that stimulate intellectual curiosity, promote effective questioning and responses, ensure clarity in presentations, and optimize the use of resources.
• Maintain high standards for student behavior, creating a positive disciplinary environment through focused teaching and constructive relationships.
• Encourage positive behavior, enhance self-esteem, and foster independent work among students to support their education and development in an ICT context.
D. Assessment and Evaluation:
• Assess the extent to which learning objectives are attained and use these evaluations to guide future teaching methods.
• Grade and monitor students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive feedback both orally and in writing, and set goals for their progress.
• Be aware of the requirements imposed on students regarding the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5 when applicable.
E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:
• Know how to prepare and deliver informative reports to parents effectively.
• Recognize that learning transcends the classroom and create opportunities for students to connect their studies to real-world and work-related situations.
• Understand the significance of collaborating with external agencies.
F. Managing Own Performance and Development:
• Acknowledge the responsibility for personal professional growth and stay updated on current research and advancements in pedagogy and their subject areas.
• Be aware of their professional duties concerning school policies, guidelines, and practices.
• Act as a positive role model for students in both appearance and demeanor.
• Critically evaluate their teaching effectiveness and use this self-reflection to improve their practice.
G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:
• Cultivate effective professional relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.
H. Managing Resources:
• Choose and effectively utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational materials that support the achievement of teaching goals.
Skills/Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree and a valid teaching certificate or license with strong subject expertise.
• A minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in a school setting.
