About This Role

Unity Concord International School is in search of a caring and committed Mandarin-Speaking School Counselor (Social-Emotional) to enhance the well-being and social-emotional growth of our students. The ideal applicant will be instrumental in delivering counseling support, encouraging positive mental health, and nurturing a safe and inclusive educational atmosphere.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with the Director of Counseling, educators, school leaders, and families to address the social-emotional needs of students, ensuring effective interventions and support mechanisms are established. This role also specifically aids Mandarin-speaking students and their families, facilitating clear communication and culturally sensitive guidance when required.

Key Responsibilities



Offer individual counseling to students facing social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties


Lead small group counseling sessions that concentrate on social skills, emotional regulation, friendship building, and resolving conflicts


Provide counseling in Mandarin for Mandarin-speaking students to enhance accessibility and comfort


Act as a liaison between Mandarin-speaking families and the school concerning student well-being


Perform student check-ins and deliver early interventions for those showing emotional or behavioral issues


Work in conjunction with teachers and staff to assist with student behavior, peer interactions, and classroom dynamics


Engage in parent meetings and offer culturally mindful guidance to families when necessary


Aid in the execution of the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework addressing student social-emotional and behavioral needs


Facilitate and support social-emotional learning lessons aligned with the Second Step SEL curriculum


Contribute to the creation and implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and preventative mental health initiatives


Keep precise, confidential, and professional records of counseling sessions and student support plans


Consult with teachers on strategies to assist students with emotional and behavioral challenges


Champion school-wide well-being initiatives, workshops, and mental health awareness events


Collaborate with the counseling team on student Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and intervention strategies

Qualifications


Required:

• A degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related discipline

• Proficiency in both Mandarin and English (spoken and written)

• Experience working with children or adolescents in educational or youth-centered environments

• Knowledge of social-emotional learning frameworks and student support systems

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities

• Capacity to uphold confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards

• Eligibility for a work permit and visa in Thailand

Preferred:

• Experience in an international school setting

• Experience assisting multilingual or multicultural student groups

• Familiarity with MTSS frameworks and tiered student support systems

• Experience in implementing or supporting Second Step or similar SEL programs

Salary & Benefits

• Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

• Yearly renewable contract

• Health benefits (the school covers 50% of SSO government insurance)
