Purpose of Role

To inspire students in the subject you teach, enhancing their enjoyment and success in learning.

Responsible to: The Head of Secondary and Executive Principal for all aspects of the role

Responsible for: The designated students in assigned Mathematics classes

Responsibilities

Actively support and promote the BCIS Mission, Vision, and Values.

Align teaching methodologies with the BCIS Learning Principles within the Mathematics learning environment.

Implement all school policies related to staff and students.

Key Tasks

Learning and Teaching

- Collaborate with the Head of Department and fellow teachers to design, prepare, teach, and assess schemes of work as per the National Curriculum of England and Wales (in an international context) and exam board specifications for both internal assessments and external examinations.

- Ensure that all planning and preparation is tailored to meet the individual needs of every student.

- Employ a range of teaching and learning strategies consistent with the BCIS Learning Principles to achieve curricular objectives and address the diverse needs of students through differentiation and group dynamics.

- Create a learning environment that embodies the BCIS Learning Principles in practice.

- Provide regular feedback and ensure that work is marked and assessed according to School and Subject Policies, including assessment for learning (AfL) practices.

- Analyze assessment outcomes and utilize these insights to guide planning for individual learners and the class collectively.

- Assign homework consistently in accordance with the school’s Homework Policy to reinforce and extend students’ learning while encouraging them to take ownership of their educational journey.

- Be accountable for assessing, recording, and reporting on students, adhering to school and subject policies.

- Organize trips and events related to the subject matter to enrich students’ learning experiences.

- Ensure appropriate cover work is prepared in case of absence.

- Substitute for absent colleagues when it is reasonable, fair, and equitable.

Communication

- Regularly meet with members of the Secondary Mathematics department to engage in discussions, feedback, and planning sessions.

- Effectively communicate and collaborate with EAL mainstream teachers.

- Work jointly with learning support/SEN teachers.

- Coordinate with Primary School teachers as necessary regarding student transitions.

- Facilitate and nurture positive relationships between home and school.

- Report to parents during consultation meetings and through end-of-year reports.

- Be available to parents during mutually agreed times as required.

Professional Development

- Engage in the school, department, and individual review process (School Self-Evaluation).

- Actively pursue opportunities for CPD/professional learning to stay informed of current best practices in the UK and globally.

- Attend meetings, workshops, and courses offered in school that support the School Improvement Plan.

- Participate in whole-school vertical meetings alongside primary staff.

- Provide relevant CPD/professional learning for colleagues as necessary.

General

- Contribute to the organization and management of extracurricular activities and participate in the planning of school events, productions, and sports events when required.

- Take responsibility for Health and Safety matters in your teaching area and report any hazards, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place for students.

- Adhere to the Child Protection and Safeguarding policy at all times.

- Manage behavior issues in accordance with the BCIS Behaviour Policy.

- Supervise designated areas of the school as indicated in the Supervision Duty Rota.

- Serve as a role model for students and uphold the Staff Code of Conduct.

- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Academic Leadership Team (ALT).

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
