About This Role

Overview of the Position

This role is centered on teaching Middle School English Language Arts, with the potential to instruct some High School English Language Arts classes. The curriculum follows American Common Core Standards and aims to cultivate critical and creative thinkers who can read and write accurately, collaborate effectively, reflect thoughtfully, and solve problems with integrity. Students will also learn to be responsible digital citizens, utilizing a variety of multimedia tools to communicate creatively and proficiently.

Qualifications



Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (master’s degree is preferred).


Valid teaching certification/license in the relevant subject or grade level.


Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.


Patience, adaptability, and a passion for educating and motivating students.


Capability to cater to diverse student needs and learning preferences.

Curriculum Development


Create and implement an engaging and effective curriculum that aligns with the school’s educational standards and goals.


Plan and prepare well-structured, clearly articulated units and lessons appropriate for all students’ abilities and the curriculum in question.


Develop lesson/unit plans, instructional materials, and assessments that address various learning styles and capacities.


Regularly update and refine teaching strategies and materials based on student performance and feedback.


Engage in collaborative curriculum planning meetings to ensure vertical alignment of educational standards.

Classroom Management


Establish a classroom atmosphere that is inviting and stimulating to effectively support learning.


Keep a well-organized and conducive classroom setting that encourages positive learning experiences.


Set clear and consistent rules and expectations to maintain a respectful and inclusive classroom environment.


Effectively manage student behavior, using appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary while fostering a positive approach to discipline.


Encourage high standards of conduct by promoting a proactive approach to learning and building constructive relationships with students.


Model high standards of organization in your own behavior.


Uphold high standards in the use of English as the common language and assist students in developing English for academic endeavors.

Instruction and Delivery


Teach up to a 75% course load (for instance: 6 out of 8 blocks in an A/B cycle (MSHS)).


Deliver engaging, high-quality, and interactive lessons that actively involve students and promote participation.


Generate enthusiasm for the subject matter and inspire all students to reach their potential.


Employ diverse teaching methods, technology, and multimedia resources to enrich the learning experience.


Tailor lessons appropriately to ensure accessibility for students of all ability levels.


Provide targeted support to students needing additional assistance, addressing their unique challenges.


Maintain instructional materials and resources as necessary.


Assist students in developing skills aligned with the school’s values and mission.


Assign homework in accordance with policy and relevant to the student’s capabilities and overall workload.

Assessment and Feedback


Create diverse and authentic assessments that align with the skills and content of the unit.


Regularly develop and administer assessments to gauge student understanding and progress.


Provide multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their mastery of the adopted learning standards.


Offer timely and constructive feedback to students, highlighting areas for improvement while celebrating their successes.


Collaborate with colleagues to analyze assessment data and implement strategies to boost student performance.

Parent and Stakeholder Communication


Maintain open and transparent communication with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and addressing any concerns; offer suggestions for additional support.


Deliver high-quality, accurate, constructive, and targeted information to parents through regular communication channels, reporting on student progress consistently throughout each quarter.


Engage in parent-teacher conferences, meetings, and school events to strengthen the school-home partnership.


Assess, record, and monitor all students’ progress in accordance with faculty guidelines to provide accurate feedback to parents through various formats as needed.

Professional Development


Stay informed about the latest educational trends, teaching methodologies, and research to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.


Engage in professional development workshops, seminars, and training sessions to continually improve teaching practices.

Collaboration and Teamwork


Work collaboratively with colleagues, sharing resources, ideas, and best practices to foster a supportive professional community.


Collaborate closely with other staff members, including counselors and special education teachers, to support the holistic development of students.


Coordinate with the Head of Department and Learning Support for students with special educational needs.

School and Community Involvement


Actively engage in school committees, extracurricular activities, and community events to enhance the overall school environment and contribute to school improvement.


Participate in school/community events such as fundraisers, talent shows, and field trips.


Represent the school positively within the community, fostering a strong connection between the school, students, and the wider community.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
