About the Role
In this position, the EAL Coordinator will take the lead in shaping and advancing the comprehensive EAL strategy for the school. Responsibilities include identifying, assessing, and monitoring multilingual learners and creating as well as managing targeted EAL interventions. The successful candidate will assist classroom teachers by providing adaptive teaching strategies, deliver ongoing professional development (CPD) focused on effective EAL practices, and track student progress along with the effectiveness of interventions. Collaboration with parents and external partners will be essential, as will maintaining precise records in accordance with school and ADEK guidelines.
Leadership & Strategy
The EAL Coordinator will be tasked with developing and executing the EAL framework for the school, ensuring that multilingual learners are identified and screened promptly. They will manage the use of suitable assessment tools to gauge proficiency levels and ensure that all support aligns with the Tiered Model of Support (Universal, Targeted, and Intensive).
Teaching & Learning
The individual in this role will provide focused EAL support through both push-in and pull-out models as necessary, while assisting teachers in modifying curriculum content for multilingual students. They will advocate for inclusive classroom practices, nurture language-rich learning settings, and offer specialized support to students transitioning into the school.
Monitoring & Reporting
The EAL Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring the progress of EAL students and reporting on this termly while ensuring that student records are accurate and current. They will assess the impact of interventions and modify offerings as needed to ensure ongoing advancement.
Collaboration
This role involves close collaboration with the Inclusion team, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Phase Leaders, providing CPD to teaching staff and fostering strong, supportive relationships with families.
Person Specification
Applicants must possess Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent credential, with significant teaching experience in a British curriculum school. A solid background in working with multilingual learners, a comprehensive understanding of EAL pedagogy and language acquisition theory, and a track record of leading interventions or coordinating educational services are required. Strong communication and organizational skills are crucial, along with experience in delivering CPD to peers.
Familiarity with standardized assessment tools for language proficiency and experience in international school environments would be beneficial.
