About This Role

The Physical Education Teacher is required to collaborate on the creation and implementation of the Physical Education and Swimming curriculum, aimed at enhancing the subject's effectiveness throughout the school.

Additionally, this role includes serving as the Coordinator for Co-Curricular Activities (CCA), responsible for leading, planning, and overseeing the CCA Program, which encompasses Activity Camps.

Specialist teachers are tasked with optimizing the academic growth of their students while working alongside colleagues to fully engage in the advancement of physical education and co-curricular initiatives within the school.

All educators are expected to foster a constructive, engaging, and professional environment that promotes teamwork and challenge, while recognizing the contributions of individuals toward the school’s overall success.

Duties and Responsibilities


Encourage excellence in all facets of school life, with a focus on student achievement


Contribute to the smooth and effective operation of the school


Foster a school environment that is positive, purposeful, and professional


Support and inspire students, fellow teachers, and other staff members


Encourage ongoing consultation, evaluation, and improvement

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities


Design and deliver well-organized, clearly articulated lessons suitable for the diverse abilities of all students and aligned with the syllabus


Ensure that the classroom is an engaging environment conducive to learning


Cultivate enthusiasm for the subject matter and motivate all students to reach their full potential


Coordinate with Learning Support for students with special educational needs and with homeroom teachers for those facing pastoral challenges


Encourage exemplary behavior by fostering a positive and proactive approach to learning and establishing strong relationships with students


Assign homework that adheres to policy and is appropriate for students’ abilities and overall workload


Promote a high standard of organization


Arrive promptly for lessons


Uphold high standards in the use of English as the primary language and assist in developing English as a Second Language


Provide high-quality, accurate, constructive feedback to parents during Parent Meetings, in subject reports, and through various communications


Evaluate, document, and track the progress of all students following faculty guidelines to ensure accurate reporting to parents when necessary


Maintain teaching materials and resources as required

Responsibilities to the School


Show respect for colleagues' needs and departmental collaboration regarding cooperation, deadlines, and team cohesion


Engage positively in departmental meetings and adhere to policies, contributing to the effective management of the department


Encourage professional discussions, share teaching strategies, and assist fellow teachers in cultivating effective practices and new initiatives


Participate in and contribute to INSET activities provided by the department and the school


Actively engage in cross-curricular connections and initiatives within the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) framework


Take on new responsibilities within the department as part of ongoing professional growth


Stay informed about advancements in Physical Education and the wider educational landscape


Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a relevant teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS)


At least three years of teaching experience


A strong passion for teaching and a commitment to nurturing the whole child


A high degree of professionalism and concern for children's well-being


Recent and active participation in extracurricular activities


Respect for all school community members, regardless of position, gender, age, or ethnicity


Previous experience with students for whom English is not their first language


A positive, solution-oriented approach to professional life


A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police clearance (for applicants without prior UK experience) and no concerns regarding suitability to work with children
