About This Role

About us
Doha College stands as one of the premier British International Schools globally. As a not-for-profit institution, we take pride in being recognized among the top one hundred private schools worldwide, as highlighted in both the esteemed Spear’s School Index and the Carfax Index, making us Qatar’s sole representative on these lists. Our examination outcomes at (I)GCSE and A-Level rank among the best in our category internationally.

We provide our teaching staff with what is considered one of the most attractive compensation packages in the Middle East. This includes a generous tax-free salary, an accommodation allowance that covers premium living options in sought-after expatriate neighborhoods, comprehensive medical insurance, support for school fees (covering 75% for up to three children), annual flight allowances, and a substantial settling-in allowance along with an end-of-service gratuity.

Our dedication to your career progression is matched by our commitment to your personal well-being. We employ an innovative instructional coaching approach aimed at ensuring that all teachers, regardless of experience, continue their professional development and strive to reach their fullest potential. Additionally, we have a thorough induction and orientation program that assists new staff in adapting to the challenges of an international relocation. Our on-site crèche for primary-aged children supports working parents, and staff representatives on our Board of Governors help shape the school's strategic direction.

Most importantly, our vibrant international student body makes for a rewarding work environment, and our forward-thinking approach encourages everyone at the College to contribute ideas and embrace new experiences.

If you are eager to join our inspiring team, which prioritizes your personal and professional development while upholding the highest standards of positivity, kindness, and warmth, we look forward to your application.

The opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Head of Department for Biology to lead our Science department team. You will be tasked with the daily operations of a busy department, fostering a love for Biology in students, evaluating their progress, and playing a vital role in fulfilling the College’s mission and vision.

The Science Department at Doha College currently comprises 24 full-time educators, supported by four full-time Science Technicians. Instruction takes place in 22 specialized laboratories. The College adheres to a balanced science curriculum at Key Stage 3, aligned with the English National Curriculum. For Key Stage 4, students choose Edexcel IGCSE Separate Sciences, while at A Level, options include Edexcel Physics, Edexcel Chemistry, and CIE Biology. The College consistently achieves excellent academic results, and familiarity with all aspects of an A-Level Biology curriculum will be advantageous.

All classrooms are equipped with interactive smartboards, and students receive iPads upon enrollment, while teachers are provided with both an iPad and a laptop.

About you
To thrive in this role, you will be an exemplary role model within the Department and across the College. You should have a proven track record of success in your current position, be a highly motivated and accomplished educator, and most importantly, possess a genuine passion for the subject matter.

As a British international school, all lessons are delivered in English; thus, a high level of written and spoken English is essential. You should also be willing to positively engage in all aspects of the school's vision, including co-curricular activities.

Qatar
Qatar offers a unique blend of traditional hospitality and modern sophistication, with Doha as a city that caters to diverse interests. Nature lovers can explore stunning landscapes, and those seeking sports and adventure will find numerous clubs and activities available.

Whether you are moving with family or coming alone, a warm welcome is assured.

Our tax-free salary and benefits package is recognized as one of the most competitive in the Middle East. The remuneration package includes an accommodation allowance, medical insurance, school fee assistance (75% of fees for up to three children), an annual flight allowance (one return flight per year to a home destination), a settling-in allowance, and an end-of-service gratuity. We also provide a comprehensive induction and orientation program to help new staff navigate the challenges of an international move.

Recognizing the significance of attracting and retaining top talent, we offer substantial professional development opportunities. Doha College boasts its own CPD academy and provides accredited training at all levels throughout the school.
