About This Role
Key Responsibilities
•
Oversee departmental planning activities, incorporating curriculum mapping, assessment strategies, and ensuring alignment with school objectives and external examination standards.
•
Guide, mentor, and enhance the development of departmental staff through lesson evaluations, performance assessments, and the encouragement of exemplary teaching practices.
•
Design and present engaging, well-organized English lessons.
•
Tailor instruction to accommodate the varying needs of students and foster academic growth across all levels.
•
Establish a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom atmosphere that encourages high standards and student participation.
•
Utilize both formative and summative assessments effectively to track progress, inform instructional strategies, and enhance student achievement.
•
Assist in the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in accordance with the IB learner profile attributes.
•
Prepare students thoroughly for their external examinations at IGCSE and A Level.
•
Collaborate with colleagues to refine curriculum, exchange best practices, and enhance the overall quality of teaching and learning.
Requirements:
Essential
•
Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related discipline.
•
A PGCE / PGDE or an equivalent qualification.
•
At least 3 years of teaching experience in English at the Secondary School level.
•
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Head of Department role.
•
Experience in teaching IGCSE and/or A Level English is essential.
•
Strong skills in classroom and behavior management.
•
Demonstrated ability to support and accelerate student achievement.
•
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
•
Fluent or native-level command of the English language.
Desirable
•
Experience with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
•
Experience in international school environments.
