About This Role
Key Responsibilities
1) Teaching & Learning
- Deliver engaging Humanities lessons with a strong focus on Geography for students in KS3–KS5.
- Provide excellent instruction in a secondary subject as needed, which may encompass Global Perspectives, Travel & Tourism, History, or other related Humanities fields.
- Implement effective teaching approaches that encourage inquiry, critical thinking, and exploration rooted in geographical and humanities principles.
- Support the development of student qualities such as curiosity, resilience, ethical awareness, and a global outlook.
- Assist in transition activities between Primary and Secondary education, particularly in enhancing Geography and Humanities experiences.
2) Curriculum, Assessment & Progress
- Contribute to the creation and improvement of Schemes of Work in Humanities and related subjects, with the ability to lead Geography-related Schemes of Work and planning.
- Deliver lessons that conform to the British curriculum, including preparation for IGCSE and A Level where applicable.
- Plan and evaluate student work in accordance with departmental and school-wide policies.
- Use assessment data to track progress, provide prompt feedback, and develop targeted intervention strategies.
- Support the Head of Humanities by preparing materials for options booklets, the school's website, and examination resources.
3) Fieldwork, Trips & Enrichment
- Lead the design, risk assessment, planning, and implementation of Geography fieldwork (both local and international when appropriate).
- Assist with humanities enrichment initiatives such as:
- Geography or Humanities Weeks
- Global Perspectives workshops
- Community and cultural projects
- Debate or research clubs
- Encourage student participation in competitions like essay contests, geography quizzes, map-reading competitions, or sustainability projects.
4) Pastoral, Inclusion & Student Wellbeing
- Serve as a Personal Tutor, fostering strong relationships with students and their families.
- Cultivate a safe and respectful learning environment that embodies the values and behavioral standards of RGSPP.
- Differentiating instruction effectively for students with EAL, SEND, and high achievers.
- Provide additional academic support to students through clinics, catch-up sessions, or workshops.
5) Co-Curricular, Enrichment & Competitions
- Lead or support active Humanities-related clubs such as Geography Society, Debate Club, Model United Nations (MUN), Global Issues Network, Sustainability Ambassadors, or Travel & Tourism enterprise groups.
- Contribute to the comprehensive education at RGSPP through participation in the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) program, the House System, and student leadership initiatives.
- Prepare and motivate students for academic competitions (e.g., essay challenges, geography bees, map-reading and GIS contests, MUN conferences, global citizenship challenges, and international humanities Olympiads).
- Organize guest speaker events, Humanities Weeks, cultural and identity activities, fieldwork days, inquiry-based workshops, and problem-solving or case-study challenges.
- Build partnerships with local and international organizations such as universities, NGOs, cultural institutions, sustainability groups, museums, and heritage sites to provide real-world learning opportunities.
6) Operational Responsibilities
- Keep accurate records of attendance, behavior, progress, and achievements.
- Engage in departmental planning, resource development, and data analysis.
- Effectively utilize school digital platforms (e.g., MIS, reporting systems, online learning tools).
- Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to secure necessary hardware, software, robotics kits, or licenses.
- Assist with whole-school events, duties, assemblies, and emergency protocols.
