About This Role

Job Purpose
This role is centered on creating a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where students can develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes for academic success and personal growth. The teacher will work collaboratively within the school community, embody the institution’s values, and contribute positively to its overall atmosphere.

Job Responsibilities
A) Teaching & Learning
• Plan and deliver engaging, structured, and customized lessons for primary students.
• Utilize a range of teaching techniques and resources to motivate and challenge students.
• Consistently and accurately evaluate, document, and share students’ progress.
• Modify instruction to meet the diverse learning requirements of all students, including those with EAL and SEND needs.
• Leverage data to inform teaching strategies and provide targeted support.
• Encourage a classroom environment built on respect, encouragement, and high expectations.
• Assess student learning on a per-lesson basis, using assessment results to set goals and track progress.
• Follow the school’s teaching and learning policies as outlined in the School’s Policy.

B) Pastoral Care
• Support the social, emotional, and moral growth of every student.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Promote student independence, resilience, and responsibility.
• Communicate effectively with parents about their child's academic progress and well-being.
• Actively participate in all aspects of school life and help cultivate a supportive and inclusive school culture.

C) Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
• Participate actively in staff meetings, CPD sessions, school events, and extracurricular activities.
• Collaborate with year group and subject teams to maintain curriculum consistency.
• Keep up-to-date planning, reporting, and assessment records.
• Contribute to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.

D) Community Contribution
• Support the vision and values of Durham School by promoting teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism.
• Establish strong connections with parents and guardians to enhance their engagement in school activities and learning.
• Assist with various school events and activities as required.
• Remain aware of school communications and calendars, ensuring to meet deadlines set by the SLT or Principal.
• Adhere to the School’s policies and dress code, following reasonable instructions from school leadership.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required. A Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education with QTS is necessary when applicable.

Experience
A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the British Curriculum in a similar role is essential.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
