Purpose of Role
At Dehong Secondary School, the teacher is tasked with creating a nurturing, flexible, and language-rich environment that promotes exemplary learning, student autonomy, and agency. This role involves establishing positive and caring relationships with students, their families, and fellow staff members. The teacher ignites a passion for learning within students and is adept at enhancing their knowledge and skills, enabling a more profound conceptual understanding. A crucial aspect of this role is understanding how to support student well-being and foster strong, positive character traits necessary for leading a successful and meaningful life. Collaborating with colleagues across different grade levels and throughout the school is essential to developing the Dehong curriculum and planning engaging, academically rigorous inquiry-based units aimed at enhancing each student's language abilities. The teacher is dedicated to action research and employs best practices to inform their planning, classroom strategies, and assessment techniques. A comprehensive understanding of Dehong's vision, mission, learning principles, and commitment to service and sustainability is vital.
We are looking for teachers who are not only passionate about their subjects but also eager to participate in pastoral roles, form tutoring, mentoring, and Qidi extracurricular activities within the school. This full-time teaching position comprises approximately 18*60 teaching hours per week, not including Qidi, with a maximum class size of 26 students.
Our School
Dehong Shanghai International Chinese School, the first Dehong establishment in China, is located in the Minhang District. Since its opening in September 2017, the school has expanded to accommodate over 1,000 students across both the Elementary and Secondary divisions.
In 2023, the school moved into a newly constructed Phase II campus, featuring state-of-the-art facilities, including collaborative learning spaces and dedicated areas for performing arts, sports, STEAM, and innovation. This expansion allows Dehong Shanghai to increase its capacity to 1,500 students, with on-site boarding facilities for more than 900 students.

Additional Expectations
• Contribute to ongoing innovation and the development of the Dehong curriculum (English medium learning components)
• Lead and/or assist with at least one (1) co-curricular activity
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings
• Facilitate (including preparing students/activities) in assemblies, celebrations, and extracurricular events
• Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to share best practices and participate in group-wide events as appropriate

Person Specifications
Required
Qualifications:
(Essential for China Work Permit)
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant/specialist subject area
• Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent
Desired
• Master’s degree
• CLIL or EAL qualification or relevant experience
• Qualified Teacher Status in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, USA
Skills/Experience:
• Native or near-native proficiency in English
• Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching inquiry-based learning (or PYP curriculum) in IB Geography & Environmental Systems and Societies at the Secondary level
• Proven success in working with students in the designated age range
• For Specialist Teachers, demonstrated expertise in your subject area
• A strong understanding of progressive teaching methods
• Effective planning and time management skills
• Creative and effective utilization of resources, including educational technology
• Ability to maintain student engagement and focus on learning
• Positive behavior management skills
• Strong communication and active listening abilities
• Flexibility to adapt to various contexts and enthusiasm for collaborating with Chinese colleagues and parents
• Experience working with EAL/ELL students
• Passion for curriculum development and study
• Proven history of employing diverse assessment and feedback methods
• Track record of raising student achievement and setting ambitious targets
• Experience in an international school setting in IB Geography & Environmental Systems and Societies
• Proficiency in spoken Mandarin Chinese is advantageous, but not mandatory
• Excellent subject knowledge, particularly in literacy and Secondary school Science (for non-Specialist Teachers)
