About This Role
Uphold and promote the principles and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values. Deliver the prescribed curriculum while showcasing current and accurate knowledge of both curriculum content and subject matter.
Design and implement engaging lessons that inspire students to learn. Develop and employ suitable materials and create a classroom environment that accommodates various learning styles. Provide written documentation of planning and preparation upon request. Maintain comprehensive records of curriculum plans, year plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment strategies.
Ensure adherence to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times, including Child Protection protocols. Tailor instruction to meet the unique needs of each student, utilizing appropriate teaching methods for diverse learners, such as late entrants, ESL students, those with low academic abilities, and gifted individuals.
Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and report on students' educational development, progress, and achievements, using assessments to ensure the curriculum aligns with individual student requirements. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of media and technology within the classroom setting.
Foster the overall progress and well-being of students while offering guidance on both educational and pastoral issues. Engage with external parties, such as Ministry of Education officials, when necessary.
Participate in appraisal and Performance Management processes as well as Professional Development (PD) opportunities. Take an active role in your own professional growth. Collaborate with colleagues in the creation and enhancement of teaching materials, resources, study courses, and pastoral care arrangements.
Take part in and lead, when appropriate, the school's co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for a minimum of two hours. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
Supervise and monitor student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness. Develop and implement strategies that promote self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior effectively. Model and advocate for cultural awareness and understanding while instilling a passion for learning.
Assist in organizing and planning school events and activities, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days. Regularly communicate with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, while keeping them informed about their children's progress, all while maintaining the confidentiality of student information.
Demonstrate commitment by initiating efforts beyond the typical workday when necessary. Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as required. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by direct and indirect reporting line managers or supervisors.
