About This Role

Head of Mathematics: Mallorca International School
Reports to: Head of Secondary

Key Relationships: Secondary Team, Key Stage Coordinators, Parents, and Students

Time Allocation: 55% Timetable (significant leadership remission)

The Opportunity
Mallorca International School is in search of a dynamic and inspiring leader to take on the role of Head of Mathematics. We are looking for a forward-thinking educator who possesses a deep passion for teaching, exceptional pedagogical capabilities, and remarkable leadership qualities to enrich our vibrant school community.

This is a distinctive opportunity to guide our students through their mathematical journey, from Key Stage 3 all the way to their final IGCSE examinations. Our leaders enjoy a fantastic work-life balance in a nurturing, progressive environment that fosters collaboration and academic excellence.

The selected candidate will head a department that is integral to our school's academic framework. The ability to teach an additional subject, like ICT, would be advantageous.

At Mallorca International School, we recognize that exemplary leadership requires time for reflection, strategic planning, and mentorship. To support this, the Head of Mathematics will receive a generous teaching remission, working on a 55% timetable. This arrangement is specifically designed to allow our leaders to concentrate on department development, staff coaching, and individualized student support while ensuring a sustainable and fulfilling work-life balance.

The Role
As the Head of Mathematics, your responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Leadership: Articulate and implement a clear vision for Mathematics throughout the secondary phase, ensuring that the curriculum is innovative, thorough, and inclusive.

• Pedagogical Excellence: Demonstrate outstanding classroom practice and mentor departmental staff to provide high-quality instruction that motivates students of all abilities.

• Curriculum Oversight: Direct the implementation and ongoing enhancement of the KS3 and IGCSE Mathematics schemes of work, ensuring high achievement and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject.

• Data-Driven Progress: Manage the utilization of iSAMS and internal tracking systems to assess student progress within the department, applying targeted interventions to help every student achieve their potential.

• Visibility & Spirit: Champion the celebration of mathematical accomplishments throughout the campus, leading signature events such as "Pi Day," External Maths Challenges, and Inter-House STEM competitions.

• Collaborative Practice: Partner closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure departmental objectives align with the broader educational vision of the school and global assessment standards.

Candidate Profile
We seek a leader who naturally energizes their team—a visionary capable of making Mathematics engaging and the "beating heart" of the school's academic life.

Qualifications

• BA/BSc/BEd in Mathematics or a relevant STEM field, accompanied by PGCE/QTS.

• Demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development in leadership or advanced mathematics pedagogy.

Experience
• A solid record of delivering high-quality Mathematics instruction and enhancing standards at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

• Experience in a leadership capacity (Head of Department, Key Stage Coordinator, or Lead Teacher) is highly preferred.

• Proven success in preparing students for formal external examinations (Cambridge or Edexcel preferred).

Skills & Mindset
• Motivational: Capable of challenging and stretching elite mathematicians while upholding an inclusive "Maths for All" philosophy.

• Inspirational Leader: Proficient at managing and developing staff, nurturing a culture of shared best practices and professional development.

• Organised: Resilient and proactive, with the capacity to manage the strategic, administrative, and assessment demands of a core department with precision.
