About This Role

Head of Secondary Science (m/f/d)

St. George’s School is looking for a seasoned individual to take charge of the Science department in our vibrant Secondary School, commencing in August 2026.

The School

For nearly 40 years, St. George’s School has been dedicated to serving the international community in Cologne, blending a comprehensive curriculum with a family-oriented approach. From its modest beginnings, the school has flourished into a thriving community of around 800 students, aged 2 to 18, representing over 40 nationalities.

The National Curriculum is implemented throughout the school, and we provide the IB Diploma for our Sixth Form students.

As part of a network of three schools across Germany, St. George’s presents the successful candidate with an exciting array of opportunities for professional advancement and development within the school group.

The Location

Nestled on a newly constructed campus on the outskirts of Cologne, St. George’s School benefits from excellent transport connections to the city center and the wider Cologne-Bonn area.

As Germany's fourth largest city, Cologne is a lively cultural hub with a diverse international community. Centrally located in Europe, Cologne offers a high quality of life along with countless opportunities for travel and cultural exploration.

The Cologne-Bonn airport is just 20 km from the school, offering numerous daily flights to the UK, while a high-speed rail service links Cologne to London via Brussels.

The Role

We are eager to hire an experienced professional to lead the Science Department within our Secondary School. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative educator.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate teacher with prior leadership experience. We seek a balance of experience, enthusiasm, and a love for teaching and learning that can motivate both students and staff.

Candidates must have fluency in English and be familiar with the English National Curriculum. An eagerness to engage in the vibrant extracurricular activities of the department is also a plus.

Given the evolving nature of the school, adaptability and a willingness to support colleagues are essential. A strong commitment to enhancing the pastoral and extracurricular life of the school will also be beneficial.

The Science Department fosters a love for scientific inquiry and emphasizes the significance of science in everyday life. It provides not only academic knowledge but also practical skills, preparing students for further studies in this field.

Science is a core subject for all age groups. In Lower Secondary, students engage in a General Science course that encompasses Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. At age 16, students sit for Cambridge IGCSE examinations, with the majority pursuing the double combined award.
