Responsible for: Library

Main purpose

The role of the librarian includes:


Delivering library and research support services to all staff and students within the school.


Overseeing the upkeep of the library and its collections.

Responsibilities


Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for both students and staff.


Ensure precise tracking of library resources.


Maintain records, compile statistics, and create reports when necessary.


Input cataloguing information into the library's automated database.


Regularly remove outdated and damaged materials, ensuring the catalog remains current.


Evaluate library services, technology, and media needs.


Establish and oversee the budget for library and information services.


Source and establish relationships with book suppliers.


Develop and manage specialized indexing systems and files for library collections.


Maintain the collections management system (Orison).


Assist students and staff with daily inquiries for information.


Select, purchase, and process new materials to ensure a diverse and current collection.


Issue overdue notices and collect fees for lost or damaged items.


Notify students and staff when new materials are available.


Respond to all emails from staff and suppliers promptly.


Prepare the sound system for the morning assembly.


Provide assistance and support during school events.


Keep track of all books borrowed by staff.


Ensure the library remains clean and organized.


Have an understanding of fire evacuation procedures.


Organize book fair events.


Attend meetings as necessary.


Collaborate with school staff to create an effective library usage schedule (Timetable).


Engage with parents, teachers, students, and administrators to enhance student learning.

Management of staff and resources


Oversee and guide support staff assigned to their direction.


Contribute to the recruitment and professional growth of other teachers and support personnel.

Safeguarding


Work in accordance with statutory safeguarding guidelines (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education) and the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.

Collaborate with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the interests of students, including reporting any concerns as necessary.

Ensure the safeguarding of all students in the school at all times.

Other areas of responsibility


Ensure full compliance with all regulations, policies, and frameworks established by the KHDA, BSO, and the UAE Ministry of Education.


Assist the leadership team in preparing for and executing the KHDA inspection process, developing and adhering to post-inspection action plans.


Contribute to the success of the UAE National Agenda.


Maintain professional communication with all KHDA and government officials, representing the school at required forums and meetings as requested by the Principal.

Performance Appraisal


The performance of the Librarian will be continuously monitored and assessed throughout the year.


The Librarian will undergo a two-stage appraisal process, with initial evaluations conducted by the Head of Operations and subsequently reviewed by the Principal.


Both the Head of Operations and Principal will provide feedback regarding the continued suitability of the candidate for the position.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
