JOB OVERVIEW

About Thames British School

Thames British School is an international institution dedicated to providing a premier British education for students aged 3–18. We are proud members of NABSS (National Association of British Schools in Spain) and COBIS (Council of British International Schools), adhering to the National Curriculum for England to ensure our students receive a challenging, inclusive, and comprehensive education.

Our vibrant school community is supportive and genuinely committed to fostering confident, creative, and independent learners.

We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated Secondary Physics Teacher to become part of our team starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering stimulating lessons, creating a positive classroom atmosphere, and engaging in the broader life of the school.

KS3 & KS4 & KS5 Science Teacher – Role Overview

The Secondary Physics Teacher will ensure exceptional teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, promoting the academic growth, achievement, and well-being of all students while ensuring equal opportunities and maintaining the highest standards of work and behavior within our international school, which offers both Cambridge and IB programs.

The individual in this role will design, deliver, and assess Physics lessons according to the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum for KS3 and examination specifications for KS4 and KS5, which include Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge A Level, and the IB Diploma Programme in Physics. The teacher will create coherent and well-sequenced schemes of work aimed at developing deep conceptual understanding, strong practical skills, and advanced analytical and mathematical abilities, in line with the philosophies and standards of both Cambridge and IB frameworks.

The selected teacher will uphold high expectations for student behavior, engagement, and achievement, creating a disciplined yet intellectually stimulating environment that encourages scientific inquiry, independent thought, and resilience. They will effectively utilize formative and summative assessments, including coursework, practical investigations, and external examination criteria from Cambridge and IB, to inform lesson planning, provide targeted feedback, and implement timely interventions to ensure robust examination results.

The post holder will also contribute to the effective execution of practical science, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, managing laboratory resources appropriately, and adhering to the practical assessment criteria of both Cambridge and IB, promoting safe and rigorous scientific practice consistently.

Collaboration is key; the teacher will work proactively with colleagues, parents, and students, contributing to curricular development and the overall academic strategy of our international Cambridge and IB school. They will participate fully in the pastoral system, uphold safeguarding responsibilities in line with statutory guidance and school policy, and engage actively in the wider school community through enrichment activities, academic mentoring, and university preparation aligned with international pathways. Experience or an interest in Theory of Knowledge would be advantageous.
