About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled Upper Elementary Teacher (GR3-5) to become part of our Elementary Education team.
The anticipated start date for this position is August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
•
Promote and uphold the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
•
Implement the required curriculum while showcasing thorough and current knowledge of the subject matter.
•
Design and deliver engaging lessons that inspire students. Create and use suitable resources and classroom settings to accommodate various learning styles.
•
Provide written evidence of planning and preparation when requested. Maintain comprehensive records of curriculum and yearly plans, attendance, teaching materials, assessment strategies, etc.
•
Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
•
Teach assigned students in accordance with their individual needs, applying effective teaching strategies that accommodate diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, and those with varying academic strengths.
•
Assign and evaluate work. Assess, document, and report on students' academic growth, progress, and achievements, adapting the curriculum to meet each student’s needs.
•
Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing media and technology within the classroom.
•
Support the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
•
Engage with external stakeholders when necessary (e.g., officials from the Ministry of Education).
•
Be involved in appraisal, Performance Management processes, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
•
Collaborate with colleagues in the creation and development of teaching materials, resources, curricula, and pastoral care arrangements.
•
Engage in, and take a leadership role when appropriate, in the school's co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Foster positive working relationships through effective leadership and sharing of resources, ideas, and experiences.
•
Oversee and promote safe and appropriate student behavior. Develop and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive conduct.
•
Champion and foster cultural awareness and understanding while instilling a passion for learning.
•
Assist in the coordination and organization of school events and activities (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
•
Regularly communicate with parents, advocating for the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents updated on their children’s progress while maintaining the confidentiality of student information.
•
Exhibit initiative and dedication beyond the standard work hours when tasks require extra commitment.
•
Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as necessary.
•
Carry out additional duties as assigned by direct and indirect supervisors.
Successful candidates will need to:
•
Embody and exemplify our core values of respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and tenacity.
•
Possess a B.Ed or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Elementary Education) along with a PGCE/PGDE or equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
•
Have a strong understanding of how to integrate ICT in educational settings to enhance teaching and learning.
•
Be a committed educator with a passion for teaching and a strong grasp of their subject area.
•
Exhibit excellent communication skills, capable of building relationships with students and colleagues while contributing to the broader school community.
•
Hold a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
