Teacher of Science

The Teacher of Science is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching that enables students to achieve strong academic outcomes, develop scientific understanding and make sustained progress. The role supports a consistent, high-expectation learning environment where behaviour, wellbeing and inclusion are prioritised.

The postholder is accountable for the progress and attainment of all students taught, ensuring teaching, assessment and support are aligned with Trust frameworks and lead to positive outcomes. The role contributes to curriculum delivery, pastoral support and the wider life of the school, supporting a collaborative culture that enables continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver high-quality Science teaching aligned with Trust frameworks, ensuring learning is engaging, appropriately challenging and supports strong student progress

Use assessment effectively to identify starting points, inform teaching and implement timely interventions to improve outcomes

Prepare students for internal and external assessments and examinations, supporting achievement across all attainment groups

Maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance and wellbeing within lessons, ensuring a safe and purposeful learning environment

Plan and deliver lessons that support wider development, including literacy, numeracy and personal development where appropriate

Provide accurate feedback, reporting and communication to support student progress and next steps

Support student development through the form tutor role, monitoring attendance, behaviour and progress and contributing to individual support planning

Implement Trust policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety, GDPR and anti-bullying consistently

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the school and Trust to support consistent practice, curriculum delivery and school improvement

Direct and supervise support staff within lessons to maximise their contribution to student learning

Contribute to curriculum enrichment through trips, visits and wider opportunities that support engagement and learning

Engage in appraisal and professional development, contributing to continuous improvement and effective practice

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Holds a good first degree in a relevant Science discipline and a recognised teaching qualification including QTS

Demonstrates strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach Science effectively across relevant key stages

Uses a range of teaching strategies to support learning, engagement and enjoyment of the subject

Understands curriculum requirements, including GCSE and or A Level specifications and relevant curriculum developments

Communicates effectively with students, colleagues and parents, building positive professional relationships

Plans and organises work effectively, meeting deadlines and managing administrative responsibilities accurately

Demonstrates effective behaviour management and the ability to motivate students

Shows commitment to inclusion, equal opportunities and overcoming barriers to learning, including SEND awareness

Uses ICT effectively to support teaching and learning

Demonstrates enthusiasm for Science and acts as a positive role model

Contributes to the wider life of the school, including enrichment and extra-curricular activities

Maintains a strong commitment to safeguarding, equality and the welfare of children and young people
