About This Role

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and talented Deputy Headteacher to join our senior leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring leader ready to take the next step in their career within a successful and forward-thinking secondary academy.

As a stand-alone academy, we value independence, innovation, and the ability to shape provision to best meet the needs of our students and community. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving school improvement and contributing to the strategic direction of the school.

We are open to candidates from a range of professional backgrounds and welcome applications from individuals with a proven track record of diverse leadership experiences.

We are particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Demonstrate strong and effective leadership skills
  • Have a clear vision for excellence in education
  • Can inspire, challenge, and support both staff and students
  • Bring strengths in any area of school leadership (e.g. curriculum, teaching & learning, inclusion, behaviour, safeguarding, or pastoral leadership)
  • Are reflective, resilient, and committed to continuous improvement

We are deliberately flexible regarding the specific portfolio, allowing the successful candidate’s strengths and expertise to help shape the role.

Our academy is a thriving and inclusive 11-18 school serving approximately 1,200 students. We are proud of our strong community ethos, high expectations, and commitment to ensuring every student achieves their full potential.

We put the welfare of our staff at the heart of everything we do and can offer you:

  • The chance to shape a senior leadership role aligned to your strengths, and career development with a bespoke CPD programme
  • A committed and skilled staff body, with engaged and motivated students
  • Excellent teaching facilities with free onsite parking and good local public transport links
  • Generous employer pension contribution at 28.6% basic salary from April 2025
  • Competitive leadership salary, exceeding national averages
  • Employee Assistance Programme and Cycle to Work scheme
  • Early Friday finish

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

Please be aware that due to the ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ legislation we do not accept CV’s.

We reserve the right to close a vacancy earlier than the advertised date if we have received applications that meet the criteria.
