Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While it is understood that candidates may not meet every qualification, relevant experience and a passion for community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
  • Experience with education grounded in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in bilingual or ESL teaching settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive educational strategies
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy improvement
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to enhance learning
  • Proven track record of nurturing a positive classroom environment through effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Experience promoting student wellbeing and engagement
  • Active involvement with students outside the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaborative teaching practices
