Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
While it is understood that candidates may not meet every qualification, relevant experience and a passion for community-centered education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience with education grounded in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
- Familiarity with cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching experiences
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive educational strategies
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy improvement
- Knowledge of current assessment methods to enhance learning
- Proven track record of nurturing a positive classroom environment through effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- Experience promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Active involvement with students outside the classroom when appropriate
