About the School

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
While not every qualification is mandatory, relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Familiarity with educational practices based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
- Background in teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Understanding or experience with modern assessment methods to guide learning
- Proven ability to create a supportive classroom atmosphere through effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Experience in fostering student well-being and engagement
- Participation with students in activities outside of the classroom, as appropriate
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Proven ability to work as part of an effective school team
- Experience contributing to a community-focused educational environment
Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: Available, with potential sharing required.
Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a recognized Canadian jurisdiction as per the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
