Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates need not meet all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience in education informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Familiarity with current assessment methods to guide learning
  • Proven ability to foster a positive learning environment with effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

  • Skills in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
  • Capacity to connect with students outside the classroom when appropriate
