About This Role

ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College School, Cascais is seeking a passionate and committed Public Speaking and Debate Teacher + Monitor to facilitate English language, public speaking, and communication activities during our Summer Camp program, scheduled from 24 June to 25 July 2026. The successful candidate will be tasked with developing and executing a comprehensive two-week curriculum (to be repeated across two sessions) for students aged 9 and older, designed to enhance their confidence in spoken English within an engaging and supportive environment.

Beyond teaching, this role includes overseeing and monitoring students, supporting evening events, and ensuring the overall safety, wellbeing, and enjoyment of all camp participants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver interactive lessons and hands-on activities that focus on English language, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Customize lesson plans to address the varied needs and interests of students.
  • Collaborate with the program coordinator to structure the two-week camp timetable and establish desired learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate activities that build confidence in speaking English while enhancing vocabulary and listening skills.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet different levels of skill and experience, ensuring that each student achieves personal growth.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that promotes participation, teamwork, and critical thinking.
  • Utilize assessment techniques to gauge student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Share knowledge and experiences that encourage responsible language use.
  • Supervise students (typically 10–15 aged 9–17) ensuring they are monitored at all times.
  • Assist with evening events, outings, and airport transfers in accordance with camp schedules.
  • Participate in duty rotations, covering breaks, meals, pool supervision, night monitoring, and transport responsibilities as needed.
  • Manage materials used during activities and help keep all areas clean and organized.
  • Address first aid and wellbeing requirements and promptly report any injuries, accidents, or health issues.
  • Engage in training days, safeguarding sessions, and all staff meetings.
  • Comply with school policies, staff handbook guidelines, uniform standards, and health and safety as well as safeguarding protocols at all times.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in English.
  • A strong foundation in language skills and communication.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in program facilitation and curriculum implementation (preferred).
  • Must be a minimum of 19 years old.
  • Advanced or Proficient English level (C1–C2 required).
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a team.
  • Skills in planning, prioritizing, and organizing tasks and activities.
  • Creativity and the capability to inspire innovation.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain self-motivation.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to meet commitments.
  • A positive, adaptable attitude and the ability to handle new and complex situations.
  • Commitment to professional conduct, safeguarding, and student welfare.
  • Valid authorization to work within the EU.

Compensation

• Salary: Euros 1800 gross for the whole period. • Included: accommodation, meals, accident insurance • Day Off: 3 mornings a week, Saturday afternoon and Sunday
