Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to meet every criterion; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficient in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
- Familiarity with teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methods
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Knowledge of current assessment strategies to guide learning
- Experience in cultivating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated experience in building respectful connections with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
- Participation with students outside the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Proven ability to function as part of a school team
- Capacity to learn and contribute in a shared, community-focused environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 – 147,243 (dependent on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Arviat, Nunavut: $21,113
- Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be required.

Conditions of Employment
- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must submit a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications that do not include this documentation will not be considered.
