Grade 8 Teacher (2 Full-Time Positions)

The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is seeking passionate, skilled, and committed individuals to fill two full-time Grade Eight Teacher roles at Father Megret High School located in Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan. This position will allow you to leverage your strong interpersonal abilities and commitment to project-based learning, creating an engaging learning environment for students.

As a First Nation Education Authority, ADEA serves three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan: Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. With an approximate student body of 1,400, our focus is on improving educational outcomes through the integration of modern technology, innovative programming, and the incorporation of Denesuline culture into classroom instruction and the overall school curriculum.

This opportunity is available to all Canadian residents, with a preference given to First Nation or Indigenous applicants who fulfill the required qualifications, knowledge, and skills for this role.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Be attentive to any allergies that students may have.
  • Establish clear instructional objectives to cultivate a positive learning atmosphere that respects Denesuline culture and language.
  • Promote a classroom environment that supports learning, considering the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that address the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Prepare instructional materials in advance for lessons.
  • Regularly evaluate and document student learning outcomes.
  • Track student progress and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Participate in professional development, attend staff meetings, engage in parent-teacher conferences, and contribute to other school-related activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A proven track record of patience, flexibility, observation, and enthusiasm for teaching.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to express ideas clearly verbally and nonverbally, active listening, and empathy.
  • Strong understanding of Effective Practices, Policies and Guidelines, as well as the Saskatchewan Curriculum.
  • Compliance with the provincial Ministry of Education curricula, emphasizing holistic child development across social-emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual domains.
  • Ability to actively engage with families, children, and community members to recognize their backgrounds and experiences, fostering an equitable and inclusive school environment.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding student and professional information.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or an equivalent credential.
  • Eligibility for or possession of a valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience teaching First Nations students in a remote community is beneficial.
  • First Aid Certification is a plus.
