Position Overview:

We are looking for a passionate and committed Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing educational programs that embrace diversity, promote equity, and celebrate our community's rich cultural heritage. This position requires a deep commitment to indigenization, a focus on competency-based education, and an innovative approach to land-based learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community stakeholders to design and execute a competency-based curriculum that integrates Indigenous knowledge and values.
  • Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning space that recognizes and incorporates diverse Indigenous viewpoints, ensuring that the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.
  • Equity and Inclusion: Create and implement strategies that promote equity and inclusion within the school environment, addressing gaps and fostering a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and the surrounding community, actively seeking input, collaboration, and feedback to continuously improve educational programs.
  • Land-Based Education: Develop and integrate land-based learning opportunities within the curriculum, encouraging a deep connection to the land and Indigenous practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate

The selection process will prioritize the following criteria:

  • A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.
  • Experience with inquiry-based teaching methods.
  • Proven track record in curriculum implementation, especially in competency-based education.
  • Background in competency-based assessment and evaluation.
  • A clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Familiarity with inclusive schooling practices specific to the Northwest Territories.
  • Knowledge of land-based education principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
